Season 20, Episode 16: Eeny Teeny Maya Moe
It has been well established that Homer and his daughter Maggie don’t really know each other quite well. As a result, Marge forces Homer to spend some time with Maggie. Being the bald drunk that he is – he takes her to the bar while allowing Maggie to play with the other kids. While Maggie deals with her little predicament, Moe reveals his new girlfriend to his bar customers. However, his date has a little twist laid upon her.
Once again we are presented with a dual storyline which ties up in the end. These are my favourite as they show different angles in the situation. It was nice to see the plot based around Moe and Maggie – as these two characters are usually neglected in most episodes.
Couch Gag: The Simpsons are brought into the scene via animation cels. Homer was the first to come on – through the introduction of his eyes, face then his body – however, he had no clothes on. Right after his appearance, the rest of the family shows up. Marge then takes the initiative to flip over one more cel to get Homer with clothes on.
Allusions:
- One of the restaurants at the Springfield Squidport is called “Pasta La Vista, Baby,” a reference to the Terminator’s line “Hasta la vista, baby”
- Moe quotes a line from Lewis Carroll’s poem “Jabberwocky,” from Carroll’s 1871 novel Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.
- Black Label is a brand of beer known for its slogan, “Hey Mabel, Black Label!”
- Moe says a line which is similar to that said by astronaut Neil Armstrong, “The Eagle has landed,” said when Apollo 11 touched down on the Moon.
- The plot for the commercial featuring the old lady giving the two children chores and planning on eating them is drawn from the children’s fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel.
