Splogs and content stealing is a blogger’s worst nightmare. All that hard work that he/she had placed in writing their blog to entice their readers wasted with a few simple copy/paste commands. Recently, there has been an increase in such activity throughout the blogosphere. There are specific blogs designed to literally copy and paste other people’s unique content. These blogs have their own unique name – Splogs which is short of Spam Blogs.
Within the small timeframe of my blogging career, I too have been struck by this immoral and illegal phenomenon. A blogger whose name shall not be mentioned pretty much did a copy/paste job. Incidentally, he had done the same with many other bloggers. When I was informed of this act by another fellow blogger, I felt a sense of rage. I had spent a lot of time researching the topic and then taken the time to write a unique topic to share with all of my readers.
So what to do?
Well, so far, I have recommended him to remove that particular post but welcomed him to link to my post and at best provide an excerpt to his readers. That would be much more appreciable and more genuine if he had done that. But unfortunately he hadn’t. Like another fellow blogger has said – the content placed on the internet will be stolen. It’s not a matter of “if” but a matter of “when”.
As a notice to my readers and future readers, I would be more than happy if you linked and shared my posts around – as long as you acknowledge the source. This is really common courtesy which nearly all of the net surfers follow. It is always important to place yourself in someone’s shoe. How would you feel if your post which you took time and effort to write was just simply copied and reproduced as someone else’s without some sort of credit?
Have fun and comment and share!
